When it comes to raising children, nothing is scarier than the whole world outside your front door. There are dangers around every corner. And with the Internet there is the added fear of not getting to meet your children’s friends. Not being able to monitor their every activity. Our parents and grandparents had a great thing that we seem to be losing more and more of everyday- our local community and neighbors. For those that do get to live in small town America, there is comfort in knowing your neighbors. Children will push their boundaries and break the rules but, if all the parents in the neighborhood are familiar, its much easier to find out what your children might be up to. Also, living in a smaller community provides a safety for your home as well. People seem less likely to help someone they don’t know. Not to mention it’s much harder to notice a new or suspicious person if everyone is not familiar with those that do belong in the neighborhood. So next time you take your child for a walk, say hi to your neighbors.
