Where does society stand on those who purposely hack into computer systems for fun? The government throws people in federal prison for hacking into government sites, but should they do something else with these people that have the ability to get by multiple firewalls and hack the system?
Some people say stick these ‘evil’ people in prison for breaking the law, while others offer a different opinion all together. Companies have enlisted the help of these would-be hackers and pay them to purposely hack their system, so that they are able to see what malevolent hackers do and then make the defenses stronger. Even the government has seen the potential for these supposed criminals and employ them to find loop holes in their defenses and fix it to where hackers have a harder time getting in. Sometimes, however, the government isn’t that nice and put people away for a long time in federal prisons for hacking into systems, especially those that do it with the intent to do irreparable harm. Companies can lose a lot of money in one day if a hacker shuts down their computer network. The government doesn’t take too kindly to that, and those offenders are hunted down and prosecuted.
