Before taking a summer road trip here are a few tune up tips and maintenance checks to do before hitting the road. A few days before you plan to leave you should get an oil and oil filter change. If its been more than 3 years since your last new fuel filter you should have it changed as well. While you have a mechanic looking under the hood, have them point out your distributor cap so you will be able to visually check it as well. If the distributor cap is worn or corroded you may want to get a new one. A new air filter will help you increase gas mileage.
Before the day of your trip or whenever you stop to fill up your gas tank make a couple more checks to your car. Adding a bottle of fuel injector cleaner while filling up may improve your engines performance. And last, but not least, check your tire pressure, under inflated tires can reduce gas mileage up to 10 percent. Now all you need is a book on tape, a few CD’s, or better yet a book and music on your MP3 player and you’re ready for less stress on your summer road trip.
