Geek speak is a New language

Humans have this uncanny drive to want to figure out a shortcut to do things. Cutting corners here and there means that the project gets done quicker and often more cost effective. This is no different when it comes to typing. As more and more people become accustomed to and reliant upon the internet from their computers or phones, it has been found that they will take shortcuts where they can. But these shortcuts can become problematic. Acronyms are helpful in that you can save space and time by typing ‘idk’ instead of ‘I don’t know’ and ‘u’ instead of ‘you.’ The problems arise when you are in an online public forum like online college courses and you are used to typing in what many of labeled as “geek speak.” Many professors refuse to accept work that is not grammatically correct, and ‘u’ does not classify as correct grammar. It is always amazing to see how shortcuts can get our point across quicker or our work done easier, but there is always a price to pay for hurried work. Slow and steady will always win the race.
